Words from our Founding Director
Grateful in Every Circumstance
When I founded the HIGH Program a little over seven years ago, I could have never imagined the world that we are living in now. These past eight months have radically changed life as we know it, often changing for the worse. It has been a time for patience, perseverance, and strength. For some, it has been a time of grief and mourning.
It is also time to be grateful. This year, I am grateful for the ways that I have seen my community come together in the face of adversity. I am grateful for the chance to slow down and take time to reflect; for the opportunity to reconnect with friends and family virtually. I am especially grateful for the HIGH Program, the ability to help those who have been badly affected by the pandemic, and for our supporters. Detroit has been hit disproportionately hard by COVID-19, and our students are feeling the effects. Thanks to continued generous gifts from supporters like you, we have been able to keep working diligently to assure that no student will need to give up on their degree, even in the face of a pandemic.
This holiday season, let us continue to find ways to practice gratitude and look forward as the New Year approaches.
From my heart to yours, thank you.
