I’ve been in college since 2014, and it has never been a cakewalk. I’ve continuously struggled and scraped by trying to support myself while I get my degree. There has been an underwhelming amount of support and positivity from my family who thinks I should quit while I’m ahead. Now I’m at the very end of my wits trying to figure out how I can pay for school. The HIGH program is giving me a light at the end of the tunnel. I don’t want to quit, I want to finish college so bad. It’s a goal I’ve had for so long and now it’s finally within arms reach, would you let something like that slip away? This award, this program means so much to other students like myself, who have the drive and the goals, but still fall a little flat due to powers out of their control. I commend Wayne State for understanding that they do have students who want to go the extra mile and graduate from this institution, and are willing to provide help and support. The people who have put me down in the past have no space in my life anymore. I want to be better, I want to be a person people look to and respect. And I thank the people at the High Program for seeing that drive in me and wanting to help.
