Tylia Henry, LLBSW

I am so excited and grateful that the Wayne State University HIGH Program has chosen me to receive an award to assist with my tuition costs. I have always dreamed about getting my degrees, and because of my childhood, I have always had to figure out a way to make sure that my schooling was paid for. I made a conscious decision to never give up, and always push forward no matter what obstacles were in my way. This semester started off rough, because I didn’t have the money to pay for my classes, and I was getting so discouraged after applying for loans and other programs because I was denied assistance. I had to remember that I made myself a promise, and would do whatever I needed to do to continue going to school. This award has been such a blessing to me, and from the day that I applied for it, I continued to pray that I would be able to receive the award. When I received the email stating that my prayers had been answered, I cried because I was so overjoyed and grateful that I was chosen.

This award shows me that no matter what I go through, if I put my mind to it and work hard, my dream of receiving my degree in social work will come true. This award helps me to continue my education journey without having to worry about how I am going to pay for it. This was a big relief off of my shoulders, and once again I am so humble. I will continue my journey and will not give up, especially since I know that there are programs like the HIGH program who believe in you just as much as you believe in yourself. Because of this gift, I can finish out this semester worry free, and continue on, and WILL GRADUATE next year with my Masters. Thank you so much for this opportunity, and I will forever be grateful for this push toward my goal.

Sincerely,

Tylia Henry LLBSW
