Grateful Student
I would like to thank the WSU High Program and staff for the award to pay off my student account balance. I am very grateful to Mrs. Jacqueline Wilson and her staff for reaching out to me and helping me to continue my degree program at Wayne State University.
I am a fulltime master’s student majoring in civil and environmental engineering. It has always been my dream to become a civil engineer. Since I was a little girl, I’ve always loved the subjects of math and science. I always knew that one day I would be able to apply my passion for math and science in something that I would love doing for the rest of my life.
However, the road has not been easy trying to fulfill my goal. I have had tremendous financial hardships that have hindered me from finishing my degree. I live on my own away from my family. I come from a big family however; I am the first to attend college. I pay all my bills by myself with no help from my family and am struggling to survive and keep a roof over my head. Many times I work internships to apply what I’ve learned in class and to help pay my bills. In the past I have tried using student loans to cover my school expenses but, it just hasn’t been enough lately. I am also a diabetic and have recently had a major surgery which caused me not to work for some time.
Receiving this award through the WSU HIGH Program will help me financially and will allow me to continue completing my degree and keep me from dropping out of college. Again, I am extremely appreciative for the financial assistance I am receiving through the WSU High Program. With the HIGH Program, my dream of becoming a civil engineer is now attainable.
