First lady and Founding Director of the HIGH (Helping Individuals Go Higher) program Mrs. Jacqueline Wilson joined the 2017 Fall Day of Service. The Fall Day of Service, also known as Make a Difference Day, brings together volunteers to positively impact the community. This year's Day focused on creating safe routes to school for students.

Mrs. Wilson with more than 200 volunteers from Carver STEM Academy, Wayne State University, the AmeriCorps Urban Safety Program and community members cleaned up Detroit neighborhoods. Volunteers created secure school routes by colorfully painting and boarding up abandoned houses.

"We are grateful for all of the hard work and support Carver has received from our partners to create clear and safe paths for our students to get to school," said teacher Crystal Williams. "Carver is proud to be a part of an awesome and wonderful experience for our community!" Carver STEM Academy students now enjoy a colorful and safe route to school.
