Mrs. Wilson attends Young Women InPowerED Expo

Mrs. Wilson receives awardOur First lady and Founding Director of The HIGH (Helping Individuals Go Higher) Program Mrs. Jacqueline Wilson (pictured above) was a keynote speaker at the Young Women InPowerED Exposition. Hosted by The Wayne State School of Social Work transition to Independence (TIP) program, and in partnership with LIVE Bea-U-Tifully on May 27, 2017 at the WSU student center ballroom.

Mrs. Wilson at the Young Women InPowerED Expo concentrated on higher education and that achieving a degree is the path to making their dreams a reality. The TIP program and LIVE Bea-U-Tifully set out to empower young women and give them hope. Young women who come from at risk populations (foster youth, homeless, victims of human trafficking, juvenile justice) were the sole focus of the evening. The Young Women InPowerED expo highlighted topics such as health, identity, beauty, finances and education. Mrs. Wilson as the founding director of the HIGH Program has had ample experience with young women who come from at risk backgrounds. The HIGH program created in 2013, ensures that no student abandons their dream of earning a degree solely because of housing or financial challenges. Financially challenged students receive housing, tuition, supplies and more. The HIGH program awardees as of 2016, were 71% female, and have gone to achieve continued success throughout their academic careers.
