As founder and CEO of Walker-Miller Energy Services (WMES), Carla Walker-Miller is a savvy entrepreneur and a visionary leader determined to change lives through energy. With decades of energy industry leadership, her 18-year old, values driven Detroit-based firm creates and manages customized energy waste reduction programs that help electric and gas utilities, meet mandated energy savings goals.
Carla led her business to double-digit growth after the recession, earning both local and national recognition as an innovative company to watch. Her firm has grown to more than 90 team members, and expects to increase that number to 100+ by December 2018. As a proud Detroit booster, Carla champions issues related to water affordability and the intentional recruitment, training and employment of black Detroit residents.
Over the past few years, WMES received several accolades, including DBusiness magazine's 2017 Champion of the New Economy, and the Ernst & Young 2017 Entrepreneur of the Year award for Michigan and Northwest Ohio region in the category of business consulting. Additionally, she was very honored to receive the Woman-Owned Business of the Year award in 2015 by Michigan Small Business Administration (SBA).
