Tuesday April 6th friends and alumni of Wayne State joined Dr. and Mrs. Wilson for a vibrant evening of networking and university updates.  In addition guests had the opportunity to receive a signed copy of President Wilson's new memior "The Plum Tree Blossoms in Winter.

The Sean Anderson Foundation has donated an additional $15,000 to benefit Wayne State University's HIGH (Helping Individuals Go Higher) Program. The funds will be used to provide short-term support to Wayne State students experiencing homelessness or precarious housing situations.

Sean Anderson Foundation donates $15K for Wayne State's HIGH Program
The Sean Anderson Foundation has donated $15,000 to benefit Wayne State University's HIGH (Helping Individuals Go Higher) Program. This is the second gift from the Sean Anderson Foundation in support of the HIGH Program. Funds will be used to provide short-term support to Wayne State students experiencing homelessness or precarious housing situations.

SEVA, Popular Vegan Restaurant in Detroit, Donates to HIGH Students
SEVA is located between Woodward and John R, near Warren Avenue. They serve a wide range of delicious vegan and gluten-free food items. SEVA has recently donated gift certificates to offer help to the students in need through the HIGH (Helping Individuals Go Higher) Program.

Blumenstein Foundation Donates to the HIGH Program
The Blumenstein Foundation, founded by Harold Blumenstein as well as his wife Penny, and has been operating out of Bingham Farms, Michigan, as a charitable organization since 1987. A graduate of Wayne State University himself, Harold has shown his passion for the midtown Detroit area and Wayne State's campus, and has given back to the community numerous times through his foundation.

It is a common misconception that if someone has the means to go to college, they have the means to obtain basic necessities. Unfortunately, that isn't always the case. There are Wayne State students who have to choose between paying tuition bills and paying for their basic needs like food and a living space.

Raising awareness of homelessness by sleeping out
Wayne State University First Lady Jacqueline Wilson talked about the need for greater awareness about homelessness in Detroit. "Sleep Out: Executive Edition," organized by Covenant House Michigan (CHM), is being held on Thursday evening to raise funds and awareness of the homeless problem. The event includes executives from over 40 companies sleeping in cardboard boxes with a sleeping bag on the grounds of CHM. On any given night Detroit has at least 5,000 homeless people spending the night on the streets.
